Agriculture Minister Robert Telus will turn to his colleagues from the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia to jointly submit an application to the EU to review – from June – the customs issue, according to his statement in Rakołupy (Lubelskie Voivodeship) , where the export of agricultural products from Ukraine was discussed.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Robert Telus, took part in a meeting with representatives of agricultural unions from Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia. The discussions concerned, for example, the situation on the internal agricultural markets in the context of the export of agricultural products from Ukraine.
Minister’s ideas
At the briefing in Rakołupy in the Lublin region, the minister pointed out that “it cannot be the case that only a few countries closest to help in this matter bear the cost of this aid, and other countries do not of this help.”
Therefore (…) after this meeting, I will ask my colleagues from these countries to jointly ask the EU to review very strongly the question of tariffs from June, because this is the most important thing, that we do it together in such a way that the allocation of these products was evenly distributed across Europe
Telus said.
Minister Telus – as indicated by the Ministry of Agriculture in a Twitter post – will address his colleagues on Wednesday, so that the meeting will take place “as soon as possible”.
Even online. I want us to feel each other’s support
– stated Telus, quoted in the post on Twitter from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
During the briefing in Rakołupy, the minister also stressed that grain prices are low all over Europe, not only in the countries bordering Ukraine, and one of the reasons for this is that grain from Russia is still coming to Europe.
As he indicated, a meeting of the crisis staff of ministers will be held on Tuesday, dedicated to the situation with grain.
The main thing is that the grain, which is already in Poland, should leave as soon as possible
Telus said.
He added that it is not about running out of grain on the one hand, but also about preparing for the new season.
When asked when the documents will be sent to the European Union, he stressed that he wanted this to be a common position of the countries participating in Tuesday’s meeting.
If my counterparts from other countries (…) do not want to for various reasons, I will certainly speak in the coming days
Telus reported.
Referring to the issue of monitoring the transit of grain from Ukraine through Poland, he stressed that this is provisionally based on a verbal agreement with Ukraine.
I hope that an agreement will be signed with Ukraine on Friday. We will supervise together, but it will be Ukraine that will control and license the export of grain to companies that will only export in transit
added the Agriculture Minister.
Reception of the words of Telus
Tomasz Obszański, president of the NSZZ Individual Farmers’ Solidarity Association, emphasized that the meeting with agricultural organizations served to develop specific solutions that would then be presented to the Ministry of Agriculture. He added that tariffs should be introduced to stabilize the grain and soft fruit markets.
To help us; so that our family farms can function normally; so that companies that have financial problems, that have bought expensive grain, can easily get out of this impasse
explained Obszanski.
Agrounia leader Michał Kołodziejczak described Tuesday’s announcements by the agriculture minister as “just promises and empty words”.
They also want to blame some grain trading companies (…) It seems to me that the Law and Justice government has an idea today to squabble farmers with companies and start a war here in the middle. These companies did not operate normally, they did not operate ethically, it was against our national interest, but they operated in accordance with the laws made by the state
said Kolodziejczak.
He also announced this from Wednesday at the railway crossing in Hrubieszów, which is also transported, among other things. Ukrainian grain, peasant protest will begin consisting of blocking the broad gauge railway.
Robert Telus, appointed by the president as the new agriculture minister on Thursday, met with Ukraine’s Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food, Mykola Solski, on Friday in Dorohusk. After the meeting, he announced that the Ukrainian side “has submitted a proposal to very severely limit the arrival of grain to Poland for some time and even to stop it completely for the time being”. Telus stressed that the transit of grain from Ukraine through Poland “will be very closely monitored by both the Polish and Ukrainian sides, so that the grain does not remain in Poland.”
On Saturday, the State Agency for Strategic Reserves announced that it had started buying consumer wheat exclusively from Polish producers. You can bid until April 14.
