Journalist from “Gazeta Wyborcza” Arkadiusz Gruszczyński decided to find out whether high inflation affects the standard of living in Warsaw. For this, he went to several restaurants in the capital. There was a crowd before them.
I walk through Warsaw looking for a crisis. And I see queues for pubs. The middle class is having a good time on the Titanic
— is the significant title of the above text.
During his trip, the “GW” journalist noticed a line of more than 20 people in front of a well-known restaurant on pl. Savior, serving breakfast. He spoke to a 35-year-old man standing in line
Honestly, I go to pubs as often as I did before the price jump. I got a raise and my wife got a promotion, so we have money for fun
replied the questioned man.
Queues for the next pubs
For two pubs on ul. The queues were also visible in Żurawia.
Some people we spoke to admitted that they are now in a worse financial situation than before, but that going to restaurants is part of their lifestyle.
I used to eat out every day, now once a week. Even though I earn about the same. For me, going to a restaurant where I get well prepared food is part of my lifestyle
– said Mr. Piotr, met by a “GW” journalist in a trendy restaurant in Wola.
With a massive recession coming up soon and probably many of my favorite restaurants going out of business, I have the last minute for a bit of madness. I can still afford it
– emphasized a friend of the “GW” journalist, explaining why she does not plan to go out for dinner.
As you can see, the “GW” journalist could see that the people living in Warsaw are not so bad financially now, as there are still queues in restaurants.
