“The Ukrainian side understands our problem,” Minister Robert Telus said after talks with his Ukrainian counterpart.
The Polish Minister of Agriculture spoke about the agreements after the meeting with the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture.
The Ukrainian minister responded quickly to our invitation. We talked about solving the very difficult situation regarding grain in Poland. These were the arrangements that are the aftermath of the meeting of the presidents and prime minister Morawiecki, the first aftermath of the arrangements
Telus said.
The Ukrainian side understands our problems. The Ukrainian side agreed with our proposals to thoroughly review the issue of grain supplies to Poland. We spoke here in particular about wheat, maize, rapeseed and sunflower. (…) The Ukrainian side proposed to severely limit the supply of grain to Poland for some time and to stop it completely for the time being. To Poland, because we are not talking about transit. (…) The point is that this grain cannot remain in Poland
– added.
Minister Telus also spoke of the need to unload grain warehouses.
We must ensure that the warehouses in Poland are unloaded before the harvest. I would like to thank Ukraine very much for this proposal
he said.
Document with Ukraine
Most likely, next Friday I will meet with the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture to sign a document on solving the problem in the grain market, Agriculture Minister Robert Telus announced on Friday in Dorohusk.
The Polish minister thanked Mykola Solski, Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine, for his willingness to solve the problem on the grain market together.
We will probably meet on Friday. We will sign a document that will define what we established today, what we agreed today. This will be a document that will be implemented jointly by both the Ukrainian and Polish sides
– said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Statement from the Ukrainian side
The Ukrainian side will refrain from exporting wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds to Poland until the new season, Mykola Solski, Ukraine’s Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food, said in Dorohusk on Friday.
The situation is complex, both for Ukrainian and Polish farmers. We all understand who the culprit is, but we need to solve this problem. The Ukrainian side will refrain from exporting wheat, maize, rapeseed and sunflower seeds to Poland until the new season
— said the Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solski at a press conference in Dorohusk.
He added that procedures related to export restrictions will be developed at the next meeting. He stipulated that export would only be possible with the consent of the Polish party. The issues of the transit of grain from Ukraine through Poland will also be discussed.
We count on the most constructive attitude from the Polish side in the transit of Ukrainian grain to Polish ports and to ports in other EU countries
said Mykola Solski.
He also added that another meeting is planned for the new harvest season.
Before the new season, at the beginning of summer, depending on the world situation, we will meet again to discuss our further joint activities
– announced the Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine.
