Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Arkadiusz Mularczyk proposed that a resolution be adopted by the Council of Ministers to confirm in a formal and binding manner that the question of Germany’s reparations and compensation for Poland – neither in the time of the Polish People’s Republic or later – has not been closed in any way, the Foreign Ministry said.
The diplomatic ministry announced on Thursday that the deputy head of the foreign ministry and the government’s plenipotentiary for reparations has proposed that the Council of Ministers adopt a resolution “on the need to address in Polish-German relations the issue of regulate reparations, compensation and compensation for losses Poland and Poland suffered as a result of the illegal German invasion of Poland in 1939 and the subsequent German occupation.”
The purpose of adopting a resolution by the Council of Ministers is to confirm in a formal and formally binding manner that neither in the times of the People’s Republic of Poland nor after regaining sovereignty, the question of reparations, indemnities, compensation and other forms of repairing the damage to Poland and the Poles during World War II has not been addressed in any way
said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry noted that “the resolution of the Council of Ministers will constitute a legal act binding on other bodies, confirming the lack of regulation in the form of an international agreement between the Republic of Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany on the issue of compensation for damages and damages caused by Germany during the Second World War and the need to conclude such an agreement”.
The resolution of the Council of Ministers will also – as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes – be an important signal that “the Republic of Poland strongly demands from Germany, the state that is the legal heir to the Third Reich, to settle an outstanding account .” of the damage and losses caused to Poland during the years of occupation.”
