The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Melnyk, the former Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, accused the German authorities of the failure of the Minsk negotiation process. He expressed his opinion in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
The diplomat wondered why the Minsk agreements and the Normandy format had failed. According to him, there are many reasons for this, and one of them is that Germany has not been an “honest mediator”.
“The interests of the impartial mediator were very confused with his own selfish interests, which eventually came to the fore, given the fundamental nature of German-Russian relations,” Melnik said.
Berlin decided that it would be better not to offend the Russians, rather than harshly demanding that Russia fulfill its obligations under Minsk, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine expressed his own point of view. The diplomat believes that the negotiation process between the parties to the Minsk agreements is purely technological in nature.
Andrey Melnyk is known for his provocative speeches. Therefore, in May last year, the diplomat criticized the German Chancellor Scholz for refusing to come to Kiev and judicial his “offended liver sausage”. Later, Melnyk was dismissed from the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany and was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Melnik in early April sent “To hell” with German politicians who called for negotiations between the parties to the Ukrainian conflict and an end to the conflict.
