Among the White Eagle’s foreign bachelors, Volodymyr Zelensky receives this award like few others. Because it is worth seeing this way of honoring more as a gesture to include someone in Poland’s group of friends than as a reward for some merit. This was the idea of creating orders from the beginning, and so was August II in 1705, when power slipped from his hands and he had to strengthen the circle of his supporters, so King Władysław IV tried to create the first order – the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was not allowed by the nobility. Let’s emphasize this unusual look – an order (especially for a foreigner) is an obligation, not a reward, an order binds a person to the affairs of the Republic of Poland, not a payment for work.
The Order of the White Eagle was awarded 9 years ago to the Grand Duke of Luxembourg – Henry of Bourbon. What merits did he have for Poland – does anyone know? In terms of merit, one cannot look at awarding the assignment to figures like Gerhard Schroeder (spiritus movens from the Nord Stream 1 project, later collaborator of the Russian Gazprom) or Ion Iliescu (a communist apparatchik who replaced Nicolae Caucescu in 1989 ). Another thing is that it made no sense to imprison such figures with strong ties to Russia, but it is all the more so that Volodymyr Zelensky, a bachelor of the Order of the White Eagle, seems to be the right figure in comparison with other recipients of the Order of the White Eagle after 1989. But also his merits for Poland distinguish him from the rest – often purely by courtesy – decorated.
His will to defend the country postponed the danger of a Russian attack on Poland for at least years, and in the case of Ukraine’s victory – decades. As probably the only head of state, he dared to talk about the attack in Smolensk. He was the first president of Ukraine to start talks about crime in Volhynia, although the effects of these negotiations are not yet known. His presence in Poland is also associated with the strengthening of the Polish cause, the Polish position in the West and even the promotion of the Polish arms industry (a speech by Prime Minister Morawiecki against the backdrop of tanks and public statements on this issue) .
Let’s repeat it again: orders for foreigners are rarely associated with merit. It would not be difficult for any of the heads of state to bend their affairs to Polish ends – at most one can emphasize a certain convergence of interests, as is the case with the preservation of the Russian Empire.
This is clearly stated in Article 10, Chapter II of the Law on decorations and decorations
The Order of the White Eagle is awarded for extraordinary civil and military services in times of peace or war, to the honor and well-being of the Republic of Poland.
Does anyone other than Russian agents in Poland think it makes no sense for us to keep the Kremlin in its sick expansion plans?
