This could be a Copernican revolution in European politics. Sensational news came from Brussels today – Tuesday, April 4, 2023. No exaggeration – great. Belgian police entered the headquarters of the European People’s Party to seize computers, telephones and documents on suspicion of financial fraud. On items seized by the police – electronic equipment and documents – the police are looking for traces of the activities of the German politician Mario Voigt, leader of the CDU in the Thuringia region. This politician would play an important role in the EPP election campaign ahead of the 2019 European elections.
Let us remind you that the European Union has recently been rocked by a corruption scandal that has been going on since mid-December 2022. The scandal has so far not escaped the circle of politicians of the Socialist-Democrats and related foundations and associations. The raid of the Belgian police on the European People’s Party, a political tycoon that “rules and divides” in the European Union, takes on a new and very interesting perspective. Including the fact that Donald Tusk chaired the EPP group for two and a half years – from 1 December 2019 to May 2022. And this most likely means that the financial activities of the party and some of its politicians will also be examined from the period of Donald Tusk’s “rule” of the EPP.
These are the first hours since the inspection of the party’s headquarters, so the media and thus the public receive only snippets of information. Polish media naively believe that soon Donald Tusk will speak publicly on this issue. For most politicians, a formal, public response to such events seems natural and normal.
In the case of Donald Tusk’s political personality, I would wager that the recent head of the EPP will, at most, try to mock some bad joke about the oppression that may fall upon him as a result of the fulfillment of a simple folk song. maxim:- “The fish rots from the head down.” .
