“I know who has benefited from this fuss, but for reasons of legal certainty I cannot say so as not to divulge tax secrets. We wonder how to reveal it,” Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk told Polsat News.
Farmer protests
The Agriculture Minister was questioned about farmers’ protests over the drop in grain prices. Farmers blame the uncontrolled influx of grain from Ukraine to the Polish market, which was originally supposed to go to third countries, but part of the grain remained in our country.
I’ve already said I’m sorry I didn’t understand what I meant. During the harvest, you should not panic by selling grain because the price falls, and I did not say that it does not apply after the harvest, and some say now that they listened to me for half a year or a year. And they should only be heard during the harvest, because that is indeed the most important thing –
– said Deputy Prime Minister Kowalczyk.
Of course I can say this: many advisers wrote to me in June and May asking – God forbid – to close exports. Hold on to the grain, for famine is coming, for the situation is uncertain. There were only voices. So it’s very different to say after the time, and very different before, which is why I don’t want to get into reviews that are formulated after the fact, because that’s when it’s easiest to review
– continued the Deputy Prime Minister, pointing out that the farmers’ problems were caused, among other things, by the EU and companies that do not buy Polish grains.
Who made money from it?
The minister also added that the topic of Ukrainian grain will be raised during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Poland, as “Ukrainians are calling every day for less restrictive grain inspections in Poland.”
When asked if he had any signals from outside the party that he should resign, Kowalczyk stressed that he was concerned about the EU’s cold approach to the matter.
I know who has benefited from this fuss, but for reasons of legal certainty I cannot say so as not to divulge tax secrets. We wonder how we can make this public
– added Deputy Prime Minister Kowalczyk.
