18 years ago, Saint John Paul died in the Father’s House. I was heavily pregnant at the time, my eldest daughter was born two months after his death. I was born a month after Karol Wojtyła became John Paul II. This bracket—that I had known Him all my life and my daughter wouldn’t know Him at all—made me wonder: What will the world be like without Him?
Today the answer to this question is not optimistic. We live in times of crisis of values and authorities and attempts to destroy the remnant. Today, many young people do not know or remember this character, and in schools there is a fashion to “kick the jack” of John Paul II. Young people leave the church, give up religious lessons en masse and find no attractive offer for themselves. However, this is also the result of constant attacks from the liberal-left media.
Today crosses, churches and monuments are attacked again, crowds are disrupted and Catholics are harassed and ridiculed. The war with the church is in full swing. The left alludes to a ban on praying for abortion clinics, similar to the one introduced in the UK. Nihil novi bottom sole. The fight against the church and the attempt to make society atheistic is part of the program of the cultural revolution. All means are allowed to trample on the authority of the Church, to ridicule values and even God himself.
I am convinced that Poland especially needs strong pro-Polish media in this difficult time. It needs a media environment that will stand up boldly for the values under attack and will fight fearlessly on the pages of portals, newspapers and television for what is fundamental to us.
