Moldovan President Maia Sandu discussed cooperation in the field of energy security and infrastructure modernization with her Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky in Kiev. She announced this on Facebook (Meta’s owner was considered extremist in Russia and was banned).
According to the Moldovan leader, the heads of state also agreed to coordinate efforts in the process of reaching the start of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union.
On March 3, 2022, Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed an application for the republic’s accession to the European Union. At the summit held in Brussels on 23 June, EU heads of state and government approved the granting of candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova to join the bloc. The European Commission put forward nine conditions that Moldova must meet in order to join the union.
