Crimes committed knowingly and willfully must be punished. And no one, be it the president, the general or any of the ministers, can go unpunished, President Andrzej Duda said Friday in a speech on the anniversary of the liberation of Ukrainian Bucha from Russian occupation.
Therefore, the international community should strive for the establishment of a special tribunal for Russian war crimes in Ukraine. We owe it to all victims of Bucha and thousands of other victims on Ukrainian soil
– emphasized President Duda in a speech delivered at a distance during the “Bucha Summit” – an international summit organized on the first anniversary of the liberation of the Ukrainian city. The president’s speech was published Friday night on KPRP’s website.
President Duda: “Ruski mir” is another emanation of the civilization of death
Friday marks the first anniversary of the expulsion of the Russians from this city near Kiev. Ukrainian troops, entering the city after a month of Russian occupation, discovered mass graves of civilians and dozens of bodies in the streets. The Russians killed more than 400 inhabitants of Bucha. The scale of the atrocity, shocking photos and survivor accounts made Bucha a symbol of Russian war crimes committed in Ukraine.
President Duda also pointed out in his speech that Bucha “will always remain a symbol of the Russian crimes committed in Ukraine during this war, but there are many similar places in Ukraine.”
They are everywhere the boot of Russian soldiers reached
– added.
The crimes committed in Bucza reflect the true nature of the “Russian mir”. The term literally means “Russian world” and also “Russian peace”, but for the victims of Russian aggression it means violence, terror and death. After the dramatic events in Bucza, there is no longer any doubt: “Ruski mir” is another expression of the civilization of death
Duda said.
“Justice has already begun.”
The president said that “in Europe we remember exactly what such civilizations are – one of them was tried to create by Nazi Germany, among others.”
I give this example for a reason. They too, like today’s Russian criminals, committed genocide crimes in the name of their own vision of the world and the new order, assuming complete impunity. Their end came on the battlefield, but also – symbolically – in the courtroom of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg, where the leaders of Nazi Germany were tried and punished according to the law
said the chairman.
As he stressed, “the same fate must be met today by those who bear direct responsibility for crimes in Ukraine.”
At the same time, the president indicated that “justice has already begun”.
In this context, the symbolic date is March 17. On that day, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin
he remembered.
It is true that the road to trial and conviction is long, but an important signal has been sent: no one, no matter how powerful, is above the law. I believe this is just the beginning, heralding a series of trials, and eventually Russian war criminals will see another Nuremberg.
said President Duda.
“Redefine understanding of Realpolitik”
In his opinion, “after the events of Bucza, we need to redefine the concept of Realpolitik.”
Tolerating mass crimes in the name of economic development must end. That is why we need a realism that understands that unpunished crimes will be repeated
– pointed to the president and expressed his belief that justice would prevail.
