Lukashenka: Sweden and Finland were “bent on” joining NATO

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Finland and Sweden “did not voluntarily join NATO”. He said this during objections To the Belarusian people and the National Assembly.

According to him, these countries were “prone” to such a decision, but before that both countries existed.

“Who did you expand? Finland and Sweden were accepted into their families (NATORe. – ed.) … You bowed down these countries that live quietly, exist and cooperate with Russia, ”said Lukashenko.

He noted that the independence of foreign policy is a luxury that all peoples and states cannot afford in the modern world.

Former Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson declarationthis increased the possibility of a separate entry from Finland into the North Atlantic Alliance.

As Oskar Steenström, head of Sweden’s negotiating team with NATO, said, Turkey believes that Sweden still has a long way to go to implement the agreement signed in Madrid last year. According to him, the Finnish authorities were not satisfied with this issue, which can be interpreted as Finland went much further in implementing its part of the memorandum.

Sweden and Finland’s applications to NATO have not yet been approved by only two of the 30 countries, Hungary and Turkey.
