Why is Donald Tusk lying in a way that had no precedent in Polish politics? Why does he say he didn’t say that the barrier on the Polish-Belarusian border will not be builtthough he spoke, and you can check in half a minute? Why does he claim that he was the first to propose the construction of the Baltic Pipe to the Norwegians, although there are statements in which he killed this key project for Poland? Why – as Marek Pyza showed in “Sieci” – in one sitting he can miss the truth several times?

He certainly believes that he can and should do anything to win, and since lies bring him closer to success, this tool should also be used. And that some media will mention, calculate, take your hand? Apparently, he thinks most voters won’t find out because the mainstream media outlets that support him aren’t picking up on the topic of Tusk lying like a note. Probably these independent, arch-democratic journalists who die for the love of pluralism find it uninteresting.
But there is also another reason. Well, Tusk has never had a precise, entrenched worldview. He chooses from the closet what he likes. When conservatism was fashionable in Poland, he was conservative, he even set up an altar. When he came to power, he avoided any clear statement in the sphere of his views, he said what was better at the time. In Europe he was a classic Christian Democrat, broken by the pressure of the left, and now in Poland he is trying to imitate the Solidarity of PiS, combined with aggression against traditional values. This extreme, postmodern flexibility this is a very characteristic feature of Tusk. He doesn’t seem attached to anything, at least not to the things that have masked him at various stages of his career. Even for such a talented manipulator, in the perspective of years, it is still a hurdle race in which it is impossible not to stumble, it is impossible not to lose balance. Especially in times when we have media in Poland, where Tusk’s charm has nothing to do with it. When specifics and details come up – and there are many during meetings with an asset – there are also accidents, followed by lies. And that’s what happened to Tusk, and in a spectacular way. He was caught not in some kind of stretching, overinterpretation, but in a blatant lie. And not once. And that will follow him into this campaign. Even in Polish politics there is a price for such embarrassment. Perhaps inconclusive, but still painful, painful, expensive.
