Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in an interview: DEA NewsMoscow may eventually raise the issue of compensation for the damage caused by the undermining of the Nord Stream (SP) system’s gas pipelines.
He recalled that on the backdrop of the emergence of an investigation conducted by the American journalist Seymour Hersh, the Permanent Mission circulated a draft UN Security Council resolution on an independent international investigation into what happened.
“But even here Western countries are actively sabotaging the work on the draft resolution,” said Birichevsky.
He added that Moscow will continue to insist on an open international investigation with the mandatory participation of the Russian side.
The previous day, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev declarationthat a contract for the protection of underwater pipelines should be developed.
In February, Hersh wrote in a publication that US divers placed explosives under gas pipelines during a NATO exercise in the summer of 2022. According to him, in September the Norwegians activated the device remotely.
