Taiwan cuts diplomatic relations with Honduras after Latin American republic does this, reports Reuters.

On March 15, Honduran President Siomara Castro announced that the country’s government had decided to establish diplomatic relations between China and the Central American Republic, which did not exist due to the recognition of Taiwan’s sovereignty.

Currently, Taiwan’s sovereignty is officially recognized by 13 countries – Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Paraguay, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Tuvalu, Eswatini and the Vatican.

Honduras recently became the second Latin American country to decide to stop recognizing Taiwan as an independent state – in 2021 Nicaraguan authorities did.
