The Republic of China (Taiwan) is actually an independent state, but it exists within the framework of the concept of “Two Chinas”, considering itself the only legal representation of the Chinese nation.
Currently, Taiwan’s sovereignty is officially recognized by 13 countries – Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Paraguay, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Tuvalu, Eswatini and the Vatican.
Honduras recently became the second Latin American country to decide to stop recognizing Taiwan as an independent state – in 2021 Nicaraguan authorities did.
