Don’t believe when they refer to me or other PiS politicians as “Eurosceptic”; I am not a eurosceptic, but a realist, just as most of us Poles are not eurosceptics, but an increasing number of people understand what a ruthless struggle for interests in the EU means, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.
On Saturday, the head of government posted another episode of his podcast on social media, this time devoted to Poland’s relations with the EU. The prime minister quoted quotes from the media, who – he said – “are not known for their positive attitude towards the PiS government”.
“The PiS government is going to confront the EU” – this is the first quote. “Another conflict between Poland and the EU”, “Poland against the EU”, “War between PiS and the EU”. This is just a small sample of the titles that have appeared on their pages over the past 7 years
Morawiecki listed.
The weapon of the opposition
According to him, “headlines like this and the accusatory statements contained in them are the main weapon of our national opposition in the struggle for power in Poland.”
How much truth is there in it? Not much, nothing at all
noted the prime minister.
Morawiecki pointed out that “there is no sign of equality (…) between the EU and the EC or the majority in the European Parliament”, and governments are embroiled in “political disagreements over vision” with institutions such as the EC. As he stressed, Poles and Europeans are currently “at a critical moment in history”, which is “particularly important for Poland and Central and Eastern Europe”.
Not only because it is here that the front of the battle for Ukraine with Russia takes place today, but also because the materialized threat of Russian imperialism has awakened the West and reminded us of the values on which our world is built
remarked the head of government.
Morawiecki said that “European values are not an invention of Brussels officials and commissioners”, emphasizing that “they were forged over more than two millennia from the heritage of the ancient Greeks, Romans and Christianity.”
These are our roots, we grow from them and, as our great Pope John Paul II said, we cannot cut ourselves off from them
he noticed.
He judged that European values ”should not be an empty slogan, they must not be distorted for short-term political needs”.
Meanwhile, whipping other European values without agreeing on their definition has become the main instrument of political violence in the Union and is leading to its destruction.
– added.
The Prime Minister recalled that “the EU is strong with the strength of the nation states, because Europe’s political, economic and cultural strength comes from the energy of the nation states, from their diversity.” He also said that “there can be no place for censorship or ideological indoctrination in Europe”.
We must be aware that while the fate of Ukraine and the new world order are being decided to our east, the fate of the Union is being decided to the west of our border – whether it will be a democratic community or a bureaucratic machine with a central undemocratic pseudo-government.
said Morawiecki.
I warn anyone who wants a European superstate governed by a small elite – politics is always about choices, but this choice must be made at the ballot box, not in the privacy of offices
he stressed.
Call to Poland
The prime minister also appealed to Poland not to be convinced that discussions and disputes between democratically elected authorities within the EU institutions are a sign of anti-Europeanism or euroscepticism.
It is an integral part of democracy
he explained.
Don’t believe when they refer to me or other PiS politicians as “Eurosceptic”. I am not a eurosceptic, I am a realist, just as most of us Poles are not eurosceptics, but an increasing number of people understand what a ruthless struggle for interests in the EU means. That is why you can call us Eurorealists
said Morawiecki.
He noted that “from the beginning of our membership efforts, the EU has been the embodiment of our aspirations to return to the free world, to the cultural and civilizing community that we have been creating for centuries and from which we were excluded by the communists. The European Union we are too,” said Morawiecki.
