A necessary but not sufficient condition for national reconciliation is for the current government to be held accountable for evil deeds, thefts and deaths of people, Civic Platform leader Donald Tusk said in Sosnowiec. He considered it necessary to compensate the persons injured by the PiS authorities.
Remember – settle accounts – reconcile and compensate those who have been wronged by the authorities in recent years
– said the leader of the Civic Coalition when asked about the possibility of consent on the polarized Polish political scene.
Unfortunately, we won’t have the comfort of “let’s reconcile” for the foreseeable future. I would like it very much, but do not believe it is possible to announce it overnight: there is national consensus and Kaczyński will be gentle as a lamb, Czarnek will be a model of delicacy and tenderness towards students, etc.
Tusk said.
Tusk the patron saint of reconciliation?
The chairperson of the platform participated in a meeting with young people in Sosnowiec as part of the Campus Academy – a nationwide education, training and mentoring forum initiated by Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, where young people participate in workshops and have the opportunity to meet politicians and experts directly.
The leader of PO judged that it is worth doing everything to temper the emotions that divide society, but this cannot mean that the authorities are not responsible for their actions.
Responsibility for evil deeds, responsibility for theft, responsibility for the death of people – it must be fulfilled. If reconciliation is to become a reality – and I believe it is possible – reconciliation is, in my view, probably a necessary but not a sufficient condition
Tusk said.
As he judged: “Poland is at odds (…) because there are politicians and political forces that have turned sharp conflict and division into a way to win”, and the conflict has become the essence of politics . The politician argued that evil is not an idea, but something that actually happens every day, in the form of violence or contempt, for example.
I’m not saying that every PiS voter is someone who does bad things. Really, there is no such opinion, but I know that PiS as a political formation has bet on evil; evil, which, by releasing different emotions, gives them the opportunity to expand their power
– assessed the head of the PO and explained that it was necessary to defeat PiS in the elections.
“I have to win the election first.”
I would prefer to defeat them first and then introduce rules and regulations that make it difficult for the bad guys to rise to power. But first I have to win the election with them. Because if they win the election, things will get worse, not better
– argued the chairman of the Platform.
When asked about the brutal language of Polish politics – on both sides of the political conflict – Tusk judged that the language is “the result of a very serious conflict of values”. He disagreed with the view that all parties are equally responsible for the brutalization of the language.
I get an internal rebellion when I hear such seemingly objective diagnoses: something is happening to our language, the situation needs to be resolved – this is the dreamscape for PiS, that is, for the torturer in this matter
– said the politician, announcing that he would “leave no field” on this matter.
He emphasized that evil deeds are not the result of an objective, abstract conflict, but are the responsibility of “specific people, specific institutions, specific leaders who command this kind of service”.
I will not be gentle with them, though I will not hunt anyone; but I will not capitulate just because I feel this conflict is unbearable
explained Tusk.
As he said, every day he and his family are victims of “a waterfall of slander and slander in every possible government media”.
We have to fight and we can’t let ourselves be told that everyone is a little guilty, the truth is somewhere in the middle, let’s admit, maybe it will work out. Not me, I’m not going to admit it, because I know who is doing bad things in Poland
– assured Donald Tusk.
Old polarity
In Poland – he added – “it is common that if you are well brought up, read some books, have a higher education, are a family man, you have to be completely helpless in front of someone who is muscular, you will come, you will be in the hit the head and you don’t stand a chance in this fight.”
I would like there to be strength on the side of culture, intelligence and sensitivity. I will never agree that honest, cool, smart, cultured people are weak and powerless at the same time. We must also fight for our world, otherwise it will be taken from us
– argued Tusk in Sosnowiec.
When asked about the electoral chances and role of the Confederation in Polish politics, the PO leader said he did not think the Confederation would be “the discovery of the season in the sense that it will come to power” . He expressed a belief that “there is an unwritten agreement between PiS and the Confederacy”.
I treat the Confederation as Kaczyński’s cunning idea, as the spaces that PiS has irretrievably lost in this political season are trying to regain in part (…). A confederation with nationalistic and somewhat liberal slogans is such an idea of Kaczyński; in that sense it is threatening and in that sense you have to give a sincere answer
Tusk rated.
He quoted the slogans of one of the politicians of the Confederation about Poland without taxes, without Jews, without gays, without abortion and without the European Union.
According to Tusk, Democratic parties also have to think tactically in order not to be outplayed, as he said.
You don’t have to give up your own ideals to be very pragmatic and play smart at the same time (…). It’s worth being at least as smart as your opponent
he assessed.
