China co-sponsored a draft Russian resolution calling on the UN Secretary-General to create an international commission to investigate the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. It has been reported Telegram First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.

“The Chinese were the co-authors of the text, other countries may appear,” the diplomat wrote.

He noted that Russia has been conscientiously conducting expert work on the text for a month and has removed all conflicting points for constructive-minded partners. The Russian representative pointed out that now there is only one “argument” left by the Western countries that did not ostentatiously participate in this study – an international investigation was not necessary, as they relied on the investigations of Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

Voting on the resolution will take place on March 27.

Sergey Lavrov, former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stressedHe said that Russia will seek the truth in this situation by investigating the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. He announced the submission of the relevant draft resolution and expressed hope that the UN would fulfill its responsibility in the fight against terrorism, which “destroyed a critical infrastructure facility on which the energy security of the European Union depends heavily”.
