“The Belarusian side received a clear signal. As long as Andrzej Poczobut is in prison, the passage in Bobrowniki will be closed. We are applying hard answers to the regime,” Mariusz Kamiński, Minister of the Interior and Administration, stressed at a press conference.
Response to the Poczobut judgment
During a press conference on the establishment of the Border Guard College in Koszalin, a question was asked about entrepreneurs running their businesses at the border and this opportunity was denied. The deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Paweł Szefernaker, pointed out that “the Ministry of Development is responsible for the shields and additional programs”, but that the government will provide some form of assistance.
The Belarusian side received a clear signal. As long as Andrzej Poczobut is in prison, the passage in Bobrowniki will be closed. We use hard answers to the regime
– emphasized the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration Mariusz Kamiński.
Actions of the Lukashenko regime
On February 10, traffic at the Polish-Belarusian border crossing in Bobrowniki (Podlaskie Voivodeship) was suspended until further notice. This is the result of the decision of the head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński, taken – as the minister stated – “because of the weighty importance of state security”. Earlier, a Belarusian court in Grodno sentenced journalist Andrzej Poczobut to eight years in prison.
Andrzej Poczobut, 49, a Polish minority activist, a member of the authorities of the Union of Poles in Belarus and a well-known journalist from Grodno, was detained in March 2021 and has been detained ever since. Poczobut’s trial began on January 16 at the Grodno District Court. The hearings were secret, which was decided by Judge Dzmitryj Bubienczyk at the request of the prosecutor. The court sentenced him to 8 years in prison in a political trial and charged him with “incitement to hatred” and “calling to act against Belarus”.
Human rights groups recognize Poczobut as a political prisoner and treat him as politically motivated. The Polish authorities and the international community are calling on the Belarusian authorities to release the activist and end the repression of minority representatives.
