Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said one should not think that “all ties can be severed” with Russia. It has been reported Reuters.
“It is misleading to believe that there will no longer be Russia and that we can cut ties with it in all areas,” he said, adding that Austria plans to weaken ties with this country, but that this will not happen immediately.
The Minister also pointed out that Dostoevsky and Tchaikovsky continue to be part of European culture in one way or another, and that Russia will continue to be Europe’s largest neighbor and “the world’s second nuclear power”.
Shallenberg also emphasized that 91 percent of Western companies continue to operate in the Russian Federation and many European financial institutions.
In addition, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs opposed the new sanctions against Russia, noting that the restrictions already imposed have not yet been “won”.
