“What package of reparations”? Although several days have passed since the scandalous words of Donald Tusk scornfully thrown at a participant in his meeting in Silesia, it is impossible not to return to them. Not only in this particular dimension of ignoring its potential constituent, but also in the context of Germany’s extensive actions against Poland under United Right rule. Every important economic decision is blocked by Berlin and it is strange that the Civic Platform has no resistance to this. Especially that EU institutions also have their part in blocking Poland.
Recovery question
Above all, we must remember this dialogue! The man tells the story of his family in a broken voice. His mother and her three sisters were deported to work in Germany. After the war, my aunts settled in France, where they were born, and my mother and her parents returned to Poland. The aunts received an allowance, the mother did not. “So, are we an inferior species?” asked the man and added: We don’t care about that money, Mom’s dead. But for Poland to get this money, not for me, for Poland. The Germans should answer for this, and not everyone laughs at you the way you do. What you said wasn’t funny to me.”
Tusk’s contempt
It seems that it is impossible to answer this question without empathy. Any serious politician would respect someone else’s history and answer with dignity the fundamental question about Poland’s harassment: “are we an inferior species”? Donald Tusk became stubborn and with his trademark tendency to ignore difficult interlocutors, he chose to publicly ridicule his “adversary”. With his contempt, he gifted not only the man who asked to Germany to right the wrongs done to Poland and his own family, but also the Polish government, calling him “PiS suckers” who “fly around the world like clowns with paper”.
Ground sins of PO
There is no greater political sympathy. Especially if you listen to further arguments from the PO leader, completely mixing up concepts, times and entities, and reparations with EU funds. Moreover, he sticks to the story dictated by Berlin that the case is already closed.
Where did this explosion of hatred come from? After all, a united front against reparations should go without saying! Especially in a healthy political setting, even between rival parties. In this case, however, we can only dream about it. Donald Tusk’s concern for relations with Germany is so strong that it is easier for him to ignore his own compatriot than to declare himself right when he seeks substantive justice for German crimes. Ground sins weigh the heaviest. With every party movement, the political foundations of the Civic Platform emerge.
Under the PO’s rule, Germany did not have to make any special efforts to maintain its influence in Poland. We implemented an economic and political plan that perfectly matched their needs. It was only after the change of power, when it became apparent that the United Right had its own vision of a sovereign and strong state, that pressure, blackmail, lawsuits and interventions began.
How is Germany blocking the Polish economy?
Just a few examples. We must not deepen and navigate the Oder, because that would weaken Germany’s competitive position. We cannot build a container port in Świnoujście, because that would harm the German economy. We must not build a tunnel under Świna, as this will weaken the German tourist areas. We must not allow the digging of the Vistula Spit and the unblocking of the port in Elbląg, because Germany will also suffer. The Turów mine must be closed because it disturbs the people of Germany. The Central Communication Gate cannot be built, as it will be a competition for German airports. We are forced to implement the assumptions of the green deal, but Germany is against the creation of a Polish nuclear power plant.
What was Civic Platform’s position in each of these cases? This similarity is no longer surprising. Everything is, of course, framed under the false pretense of concern for the environment or the interests of the local community. In fact we are dealing with a consistent attempt to block the development of the Polish economy and to strengthen our sovereignty. When cries and warnings are not enough, international legal action and ruthless financial blackmail appear, as in the case of the blocking of funds from the National Recovery Plan. This happens not only with the full consent of the politicians of the Civic Coalition, but sometimes even with their active participation. The question of ridiculing the reparations Germany owes us for war damage, looting and genocide is the tip of the iceberg, the result of all the attitudes of this part of the opposition to the interests of the state and Polish citizens . Unfortunately, this is all so “extremely simple”.
