Stoltenberg expects Finland to become NATO member before Turkey election

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Finland can become a member of the alliance before the parliamentary elections to be held on 14 May. TASS.

“I expect Finland to become a NATO member before the Turkish elections,” he said at a press conference in Brussels.

According to him, there is no definite date for the resolution of this issue for Sweden. According to Stoltenberg, he received assurances that the Hungarian parliament would ratify Finland’s accession protocol in the near future.

Stoltenberg also pointed out that if these Scandinavian countries join the alliance, the alliance will get more opportunities to control the situation in the Far North.

In May 2022, Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO. Turkey blocked them by demanding that the two countries designate the Kurds as terrorists and extradite those accused of terrorism or involvement in the 2016 coup attempt.
