EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said the EU feared that the “social or economic collapse in Tunisia” would lead to a new influx of migrants to Europe. It has been reported DEA News.
According to Borrell, he instructed the two members of the European Council to immediately go to Tunisia to assess the situation and prepare a report that will determine the EU’s next steps.
“Everything has to be done very quickly because the situation in Tunisia is really dangerous. If there is an economic or social collapse in Tunisia, then we will face a situation where new flows of immigrants will come to Europe. We should avoid such a situation,” said Borrell.
Previously, it was known that Tunisia has the “People’s Victory” bloc. gathers up emergency meeting to protect the country’s “sovereignty” from interference by the European Parliament.
Former Parliament Speaker Mohammad Nasser stressed Tunisia’s independence in response to the EP’s remarks.
