“Beata Szydło was largely the face of the 2015 campaign, and later the face of keeping promises, especially those related to social transfers. Now there is fierce debate and bidding, so I think her involvement in the current campaign definitely increases the credibility of the PiS message, moreover, she has a good image in the memory of the voters, says Prof. Mieczysław Ryba, a historian of the Catholic University of Lublin. An exclusive interview with Prime Minister Beata Szydło can be read in the new issue of the weekly “Sieci”.
The question arises whether Beata Szydło will run for the Sejm, it is probably possible, which would be even more important
– points out Prof. Vis.
The historian compares the credibility of the former prime minister and the leader of the PO, Donald Tusk, who was also head of government in the past.
Let’s compare the credibility of the image of Beata Szydło and Donald Tusk – this is an abyss in favor of the former prime minister. Added to this is the important issue of the attacks on St. John Paul II, which is a very awkward situation for PO. Tusk sharpens the message, talks about banning religion from schools, such things come up in his rhetoric, and it seems he completely misses the social mood in that regard. Of course, the PO chief’s tours of the country are probably aimed not at winning over undecided voters, but at winning over the voters of the left and other opposition parties, but even here there are no successes
– underlined.
Prof. Fish: Tusk’s credibility is low
The expert points to the difference between the circumstances in which Beata Szydło ceased to hold the office of prime minister and in which Donald Tusk ceased to be head of government.
Beata Szydło ceased to be prime minister not because of the decline of her popularity, on the contrary, she gave in at the peak of her popularity and in recent years she did not get exhausted in governing. When someone is in charge, they somehow wear down making tough decisions. Donald Tusk, on the other hand, left the post of Prime Minister in a strange configuration, as he was not dismissed by his party, but left it himself and fled to Brussels. Interestingly, its European features have not increased its popularity
says the historian.
Tusk, returning to Poland, sharpened his message even more, became even more total opposition than the previous total opposition. Credibility is low, according to all studies
he adds.
Prof. Ryba argues that the PO lacks politicians who would be suitable to participate in meetings with voters.
Apart from Rafał Trzaskowski, there are not many politicians who would be well received by the voters. For example, if the platform were to send Nitras into the field, it would be suicide. Who are they going to send to tour the country? And Tusk does not send Trzaskowski, considering him the party’s main competitor
– say.
