It seems to me that City Hall is surprised by the scale of residents’ resistance and the controversy generated by the Tempo 30 zone, Maciej Binkowski, deputy chair of the city’s infrastructure and investment committee, told PAP .

The first phase of the consultations on the introduction of the Tempo 30 zone has been completed. The idea of introduction has many fervent supporters and opponents.
It seems to me that the town hall is surprised by the scale of the residents’ resistance and the controversy created by the Tempo 30 zone. Personally, I am not surprised, because we have long appealed and say that it is a bad idea. We asked the city and Mr. Trzaskowski to stop. This is a very controversial topic, giving rise to protests and controversy

Trzaskowski: For now, there is no decision on this matter
When asked about the decision on the Tempo 30 zone, the capital’s mayor, Rafał Trzaskowski, replied that district consultations would still take place.
We want residents to know the exact maps where such restrictions would be put in place, and at this point there is no decision on this matter. We are consulting it and when the consultation is over we will inform you about specific decisions in this matter
he stressed.
He notes that the plans to introduce the Tempo 30 zone concern smaller streets, where the neighborhoods themselves introduce such restrictions.
They do not apply to city transit or exit streets, where the speed of movement is known to be different

The PiS cabinet has made commitments on this point in the field of urban policy. There are government documents that give clear recommendations to introduce these types of security zones. This is a European trend shared by the PiS government. However, we in Warsaw take this matter very seriously and, above all, we take consultation with residents seriously

Consultation about the introduction of the Tempo 30 zone
As part of the first phase of the consultation, two online meetings were held – on 15 and 28 November last year. In addition, two consultation moments were organized in Intergenerational Activity Centres, where representatives of the Road Traffic Management Service answered questions from local residents and gathered their opinions. Comments on the map of Tempo 30 zones could also be sent by e-mail.
According to a report published on the City Hall website, the consultations did not arouse the interest of Varsovians. In total, only 153 people attended the two online meetings. The real-time YouTube broadcast was watched by 76 users who commented, gave their opinions and asked questions (491 and 270 chat messages, respectively). At the end of the public consultation, broadcasts of the meetings had been shown 569 and 232 times respectively.
About 60 people took the opportunity to meet at the consultation points, of which 6 and 25 people respectively provided written comments. More than 1,100 responses were also sent by email.
