The decision of the International Criminal Court is a very important signal to all Russian criminals that as the ICC prosecutes even Vladimir Putin, the more it will prosecute any Russian soldier or any other Russian criminal, Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk told PAP.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday. The judges agreed with the prosecution’s request and acknowledged that there are real reasons to believe that Putin is responsible for war crimes, including the unlawful deportation of children from occupied Ukraine to Russia. In the same decision, the ICC also issued an arrest warrant for the Russian Ombudsman for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, charged with the same crimes.
This decision shows that no one can feel safe, that no one can escape responsibility for the crimes in Ukraine, even the leader of this state (Russia) will be held accountable
said Wawrzyk.
He added that this is an arrest warrant, in other words, “if Vladimir Putin wants to go to a country that currently recognizes the Court’s jurisdiction, he should simply be detained there regardless of his position.”
For the time being it is about the abduction and deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia – that is what this arrest warrant is about. However, this is the first decision of this kind, and I hope not the last. The judge does what he has to do
– said the deputy head of Polish diplomacy.
According to Wawrzyk, this is a very important signal “to all Russian criminals that if even Vladimir Putin is prosecuted by the Tribunal, the more it will prosecute any Russian soldier or any other Russian criminal.”
The deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that “the investigation of the International Criminal Court covers all crimes committed by Russians in Ukraine.”
“War crimes of the Russian apparatus of violence”
International Criminal Court ruling points to war crimes committed by Russia’s violent apparatus; Vladimir Putin is at the head of this machine and should be tried as a war criminal, government spokesman Piotr Müller told PAP.

Putin’s days are numbered
Vladimir Putin’s days are numbered; he will end up like former Serbian president Slobodan Milošević, PO MEP Andrzej Halicki wrote on Twitter on Friday, commenting on the decision of the International Criminal Court, which issued an arrest warrant against the Russian president.
The International Criminal Court today issued an arrest warrant against Putin for war crimes in Ukraine and the unlawful deportation of people, especially children, from the Ukrainian-occupied territories to Russia. His days are numbered. He will end up like Milosevic
Halicki said.
In 2001, the former president of Serbia, regarded by the West as the main perpetrator of the wars in the Balkans in the 1990s, was transferred to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He was charged with crimes against humanity, crimes of genocide and non-compliance with war conventions during the armed conflicts in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. Milošević died in 2006 in his cell in The Hague, without having seen his sentence.
