We have information that the secretary of the city, Włodzimierz Karpiński, is ready to resign. We will wait for it until Tuesday – said Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski.
The president stressed that the presumption of innocence is essential.
Contact with the secretary is very limited, which is confirmed by his representative. However, I have information that because of the sense of responsibility, because the city has to function, the secretary is ready to resign by the middle of next week. We are waiting for such a decision
said Trzaskowski.
Karpiński “shows responsibility”?
In any event, under applicable law, we would be required to make such a decision ourselves. So I hope that this case will be concluded on Tuesday, at the request of the secretary himself, who shows responsibility for the fate of the city in this matter. We hope that this information reaches us as soon as possible
he stressed.
Włodzimierz Karpiński, the former finance minister, was detained in the investigation, in which former deputy finance minister Rafał Baniak (both agree to give his name – PAP), as well as Artur P., Wojciech S. and Waldemar K. was arrested in early February on suspicion of arranging contracts worth PLN 600 million with the municipal cleaning company in Warsaw. Karpiński was accused of accepting a financial advantage of almost PLN 5 million. At the beginning of February, Former Deputy Finance Minister Rafał Baniak has already heard a similar accusation in the same investigation. Both were temporarily arrested.
The court in Katowice on Wednesday did not accept the complaint against the arrest of Włodzimierz Karpiński. The city clerk must remain in custody.
