This equipment will fight to prevent Russia from approaching the Polish border – this is how the head of the President’s Office of International Policy Marcin Przydacz referred to the announcement of the handover of four MiG-29s to Ukraine.
“Our security is strengthened by these decisions.”
The presidential minister was asked on Polish Radio’s Channel One about the announcement of the transfer of four MiG-29s to Ukraine and voices in the public space suggesting that this is a step too far and that Poland is reducing its defense potential and the Polish army disarms .
Our security increases as a result of these decisions, because this equipment will deter our enemy, as the NATO documents call it. This equipment will fight to prevent Russia from approaching the Polish border
Przydacz replied.
I think it is better for this equipment to fight somewhere far away, a few hundred or a few thousand kilometers from the Polish border, than here on the stronghold of the Polish border, that’s how we look at it
– added.
“It is in Poland’s interest to push and deter Russia.
The politician stressed that Ukraine is a country that has been attacked, and – in his opinion – the wounded countries should be helped.
This does not in any way reduce (defense) capabilities, because at the same time Poland’s capabilities are strengthened by state-of-the-art equipment, i.e. on the one hand – we are issuing post-Soviet equipment, the usefulness of which will decrease in the coming months or years, and we supplement the Polish armament with equipment of the most modern, mainly American, but also South Korean
– took note of the Head of the President’s Office for International Policy.
It is in Poland’s interest to push and deter Russia as far as possible, and if the Ukrainians do it, they are doing it in their own interest, but also in Poland’s interest.
said Przydacz.
4 MiGs for Ukraine
On Thursday, President Andrzej Duda declared that “within days” Poland will hand over 4 MiG-29s to Ukraine.
The rest have been serviced, prepared and are likely to be delivered sequentially
– he said.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday that the transfer of Polish MiG-29s to Ukraine could take place within the next four to six weeks.
President Duda stated in an interview with CNN last Wednesday that he is willing to hand over these aircraft to Ukraine.
We are ready to deliver these planes and I am sure Ukraine will use them immediately
said the chairman.
The head of the president’s office Paweł Szrot added that “it will not be a large number”, and in this case Poland is ready to act as part of a wider international coalition. The head of the Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, assured that with regard to the MiG-29 aircraft “there is complete cohesion between the president and the government”.
