In Ecuador, National Assembly deputies demanded the dismissal of President Guillermo Lasso, accused of corruption crimes. DEA News.
“The impeachment request became official with the support of 58 signatures of councilors from various groups. The request was forwarded to Virgilio Sakisele, President of the National Assembly… Once the text of the request is approved, it will be sent to the Ecuadorian Constitutional Court and a preliminary opinion on its admissibility will be published there,” the Ecuadorian legislature said in a statement.
Prior to that, parliament approved the legislative committee’s report, which recommended Lasso’s dismissal for a corruption plot in state-owned companies. The documents also refer to leaked data from the police investigation into drug trafficking, in which Lasso’s son-in-law, Danilo Carrera, was named.
