renaming russia
Press Secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, believes that the idea of renaming Russia in Ukraine as Muscovy is just a curiosity.
“You know, this is probably referring to such silly curiosities – a similar message or a similar decision. If I’m not mistaken, a lot of jokes have been made about this. I do not consider it necessary to make new jokes, ”Peskov said at a briefing.
According to him, the situation should only be handled with a smile, because whatever one calls the Russian Federation, “it will remain a great power, a great country, and will remain Russia.”
In November last year, a petition was published on the website of the President of Ukraine with a proposal to change the name of Russia to Muscovy. By mid-February, the initiative had received the required 25,000 votes for consideration by the country’s president. Therefore, in early March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmygal to “completely resolve” this issue.
“Peace Process” for Ukraine
Peskov is confident that there are no prerequisites for the situation in Ukraine to take a peaceful course – this is how the former chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger interpreted the call to “start a peace process”. Ukraine, with the creation of a contact group of representatives of Western countries.
A Kremlin spokesman said he did not find such proposals correct.
“The absolute priority for us remains and always will be to achieve our goals. Now they can only be achieved by military means,” insists Peskov.
Oscar for “Navalny” (included in the list of terrorists and extremists)
Peskov thinks Canadian director Daniel Roer has politicized the award of Navalny to an Oscar nomination for Best Feature Documentary.
“I can’t judge the qualities of this documentary, I didn’t watch it, so it wouldn’t make sense to say anything. While I haven’t looked, I dare to assume that there is a certain element of politicization involved here. Hollywood also sometimes does not shy away from the topic of politicization in its work, this happens, ”Peskov answered the question of how the Kremlin perceived that the prize went to a tape about a Russian.
Deportation of UOC monks
Peskov described the request by the Ukrainian authorities to leave the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, submitted to the monks of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, as unacceptable.
“Reasons (concern – socialbites.ca). This is an absolutely unprecedented attitude towards the representatives of the church, the Russian Orthodox Church. We find this unacceptable. We believe that the world community should respond appropriately to such an outrageous decision,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
On March 10, the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve ordered the priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to leave their premises until March 29. The Ukrainian interdepartmental working group found that the monastery violated the terms of the agreement on the use of state property.
The next day, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia addressed religious leaders and international figures with a message about the situation around the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. According to the archbishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, the goals of the Ukrainian authorities who expel the canonical UOC monks are oppressive.
Putin and the G20
Peskov admitted that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the G20 summit in India in September this year.
“This cannot be ignored. Russia maintains and intends to continue its full participation in the G20 format. However, a decision has not been made yet,” he said.
In his view, the G7 is meeting the economic demands of the planet and the G20 better reflects the situation, so Moscow is focusing specifically on the G20.
