Left-wing councilors want the John Paul II Center of Thought in the capital to be converted into a religiously neutral institution. They wrote an interpellation about this to the mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski. Dariusz Figura, president of the Club of Law and Justice Councilors of Warsaw, responded to the initiative of Councilor Agata Diduszko-Zyglewska and Councilor Marek Szolc.
We call on you (President Rafał Trzaskowski – PAP) to transform the Center for Thought of John Paul II into a religiously neutral institution that would promote intercultural and religious dialogue
– we read in the interpellation of councilor Agata Diduszko-Zyglewska and councilor Marek Szolc.
In their opinion, “in the context of the city’s capital role, the needs and lifestyle of its inhabitants, as well as Warsaw’s increasingly multicultural community, the creation of such an institution would be very meaningful for building our common good future. “
In the justification of the question, the left-wing councilors wrote that “for many Warsaw residents, Karol Wojtyła’s reflections are not universal, especially in the context of addressing women’s rights, LGBT rights, family, sexual violence against children.”
Opinion of Diduszko-Zyglewska
In an interview with PAP, Councilor Diduszko-Zyglewska stressed that “it is a sensation that among municipal cultural institutions there is an institution that is religious in nature”.
This is wrong
she added.
She admitted that she had been induced to write the interpellation, among other things. new publications on John Paul II.

“This is the edge, this is the extreme of militant atheism.”
Councilors Diduszko and Szolc are extremes of militant atheism. With these words, the chairman of the Warsaw Councilors’ Club of Law and Justice assessed the proposal for the liquidation of the Center for Thought of John Paul II, put forward by local left-wing politicians.
PAP asked the chairman of the PiS club in the Warsaw City Council for comment on the matter.
Councilor Diduszko and Councilor Szolc, this is the margin, this is the extreme of militant atheism. There are certainly people who share their opinion, but I don’t think this is the dominant opinion in the capital or in the Council of Warsaw.
he assessed.
He announced that the PiS club would take action to defend John Paul II’s good name “if necessary”.
Just because Councilor Diduszko wants something does not, in my opinion, mean that anything will happen, since there are only two people for 60 Warsaw councilors. But if these derogatory views of John Paul II spread through the Council, we will take appropriate action
he noticed.
