Aleksander Łuczak, a former deputy prime minister, minister of national education and a long-time parliamentarian, has died at the age of 79, PSL head Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced on Wednesday.

Aleksander Łuczak was born on September 10, 1943 in Legionowo. He graduated from the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw. He obtained the title of professor in 2012. His scholarly interests include the history of social and political movements.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education
He was a deputy of the 10th, 1st, 2nd and 3rd terms of the Sejm (1989-2001). He was, among other things, rapporteur for the committee that drafts the electoral law; member and vice-chairman of the Constitutional Commission, he was also a member of the Sejm Delegation to the Council of Europe (1998-2001). In the years 1993–1995, Aleksander Łuczak was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Education, and in the years 1995–1997 Chairman of the Scientific Research Commission. In 2001-2006 he was a member of the National Broadcasting Council.
Aleksander Łuczak was first a member of the United People’s Party, then the Polish People’s Party “Revival”, and then the Polish People’s Party. His awards include the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding contributions to the political transformation of Poland and shaping the democratic principles of the rule of law (2011).
