Turkey may approve Finland’s application for NATO membership separately from Sweden before the country’s elections, scheduled for 14 May. Reuters.

According to them, the Turkish Cabinet will most likely approve Finland’s NATO membership before the end of the session in mid-April.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö will discuss During his visit to Turkey on March 16-17, he applied for membership to the North Atlantic Alliance.

Ankara announced that the issue of approval of Finland’s application to join NATO will be discussed during the visit.

According to Yle, at the beginning of the trip, Niinistö will visit the earthquake zone in southeast Turkey. He will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on March 17. Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto accompanies the president on his trip.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said the likelihood of Finland and Sweden entering the North Atlantic Alliance separately is increasing. According to him, Sweden is ready for Finland to join NATO without him.
