Petras Auštrevičius, a member of the European Parliament, said he expects the Georgian authorities to show the necessary attention to the former president of the republic, Mikheil Saakashvili, who is imprisoned in his homeland, Georgian Channel One reported. According to him, the status of the politician is extremely important against the background of Tbilisi’s European ambitions.
“They know they have to follow the 12 recommendations. As the MEP pointed out, many Western states are already ready to accept Saakashvili to give the politician due attention. He added that Georgian authorities must make an appropriate decision “as soon as possible”.
“We must understand that anything can happen to Saakashvili,” stressed Austrevičius.
