We have an appointment for Thursday with the second group of protesters – parents of people with disabilities, who demand the right to earn extra money for nursing benefits. On Thursday we will show solutions – announced on Tuesday Deputy Minister of Family and Social Policy Paweł Wdówik.
On Monday, Deputy Minister and Government Plenipotentiary for People with Disabilities, Paweł Wdówik, met with people with disabilities and their carers at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. The demonstrators want the social pension to be raised to the level of the lowest national wage.
New proposals
By the end of the week, we will be presenting solutions aimed at supporting people with disabilities
– announced Deputy Minister of Family Paweł Wdówik.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, no specific proposals were made, we were played with
– said KO MP Iwona Hartwich.
On Tuesday, Wdówik was asked in Radio Plus about specific proposals that would be presented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy to support people with disabilities.
I have said from the outset and I still maintain that we must first introduce solutions that clearly show us how a person with a disability functions and what kind of support they need – we don’t have that at the moment
said Wdowik.
A chance for independence
In his view, solutions must be provided that “give people with disabilities the opportunity to be independent and make decisions about their lives”.
It is not true that a man lying down has no will of his own and that you can do whatever you want with him
– he said.
We have a second group of protesters – these are parents demanding the right to a nursing allowance. The difference with them was that they wrote to us and asked for dialogue. We have entered into this dialogue. We have an appointment for Thursday, Thursday we will show solutions
announced the Secretary of State.
Opportunity to earn extra money for the care allowance – this is a solution prepared after discussions with this group. It is so comprehensive that it should address the problems of many different environments of people with disabilities
Wdowik emphasized.
Guardians of adults with disabilities along with their charges resume their protest in the Sejm on March 6. They demand an increase of the social pension to the level of the lowest national salary, which is PLN 3,490 gross. The social pension is indexed annually and has been increased to PLN 1,588.44 gross from 1 March 2023. The demonstrators presented a civil bill on social pensions, implementing their postulate.
Members of the Civic Coalition announced Monday that the club is adopting and reporting as its property the civic bill on social pensions.
The previous protest by carers of disabled people and their charges in the Sejm lasted in the spring of 2018. At that time, they came up with two demands: to equate the social pension with the minimum pension for disability and to introduce a “living” supplement, also known as “rehabilitation” for people with disabilities who are unable to work independently after the age of 18 at a cost of PLN 500 per month. The demonstrators argued that one of their demands had been carried out: an increase in the social pension. After the protest, their participants, including Iwona Hartwich, were barred from entering the Sejm. However, in 2019, Hartwich ran for the Sejm from the Civic Coalition’s lists and was elected.
