The European Union started working on its own law on “foreign agents”. It has been reported Policy citing their own sources.

According to the publication, the law will require public entities to disclose sources of funding from countries outside the EU.

The bill is currently in its infancy. It is stated to reflect the laws regarding foreign agents operating in the United States and Australia.

In the US, the Foreign Representatives Registration Act requires lobbyists working on behalf of foreign governments to register with the federal government. The law in this country has been in force since 1938.

As Politico points out, the EU version of the law is unlikely to target individuals, but it will affect both commercial and non-profit organizations.

Previously reportedThat the Georgian parliament voted unanimously against the foreign agents law, which caused mass protests in Tbilisi.
