The Senate should also pass a resolution on defending the good name of St. John Paul II, similar in content to that of the Sejm – PiS Senator Stanisław Karczewski believes. He announced that he would propose such a decision to his club.
Last Thursday, the Sejm passed a resolution on defending the good name of St. John Paul II. 271 MPs voted in favor of the resolution, 43 against, 4 MPs abstained. 142 deputies did not vote. In an interview with PAP, Karczewski ruled that “the senate should also pass a resolution of similar content”. He stated that he intends to discuss the matter with Marek Pęk, Deputy Speaker of the Senate.
I will propose to my club (…) the same or similar resolution to that adopted in the Sejm. I like this content very much
– he said.
We will report such a solution in due course

On March 9, the Sejm passed a resolution on defending the good name of St. John Paul II. The resolution states, among other things, that the “shameful media campaign” is an attempt to “discredit John Paul II with material that even the communists were afraid to use”.

The resolution expressed “respect for the work of John Paul II and his contribution to the history of Poland, Europe and the world” and wrote that the Sejm of the Republic of Poland “deems it its duty to remind future generations The Polish pope was a tireless advocate of human rights and a defender of the poor in every corner of the world, showing particular sensitivity to working people’s rights and social justice.
