“It will probably be used against Janina Ochojska,” said Rafał Trzaskowski, commenting on the scandalous words of the PO MEP.
The mayor of Warsaw referred to Ochojska’s words about alleged mass graves of migrants in Poland.
Such information should not be disclosed unless confirmed. These things are too serious
– he said.
Such things should not be said if they are not confirmed. It evokes even more emotions. Such strong emotions should be avoided as it causes further division. This will probably be used against Janina Ochojska. I would advise restraint
– added.
Then Trzaskowski appealed to opposition politicians to say only words that are … confirmed by facts.
PiS is just waiting for it. Calling all opposition politicians. When such harsh allegations are made, they must be substantiated. If not, firstly you are hurting the people you are talking about, and secondly there will always be such a reaction from PiS and we will have an even deeper rift between us, and this should be avoided
– said the mayor of Warsaw.
Attack on St. John Paul II
Trzaskowski also referred to the attacks on St. John Paul II.
Let’s start with the most important. There is no doubt in my mind that without John Paul II we would not be a free country. It would probably be difficult for us to join the EU because it was the pope’s strong words that contributed to the outcome of the referendum
– he said.
He then tried to argue that defending the memory of John Paul II is in the hands of PiS.
I believe that journalists and historians, not politicians, are responsible for explaining difficult issues in the history of the Church, such as pedophilia. (…) PiS is trying to adopt the slogan of defending the Pope on its banners. And I think politicians should stay as far away from this as possible. (…) It seems to me that John Paul II can be considered a model of political virtues when it comes to defending our liberty, our civil liberties as communes. You can also criticize the activities of the Church. (…) Television makes a report, does some research, not so revealing, because these facts have appeared in the public space before. What does PiS do? He calls the American ambassador on the carpet and tells him to censor the television because its owners are American. On the other hand, we have such reactions that it is best to knock down monuments or rename streets. That would lead to tragedy
said Trzaskowski.
Has Rafał Trzaskowski drawn any conclusions from the past political days? His mood-lifting words can be read as an attempt to reflect on the opposition’s failed charges, including the attacks on St. John Paul II and defenders of Poland’s borders.
