Voters expect politicians to take a clear stand on important, decisive and fundamental issues. They want to know the program and its socio-political goals. They also want to know which side of the dispute in important public debates those they want to see as their own representatives in parliament. So they expect everything that Civic Platform is not capable of. The only thing he can define is his own anti-pissism. In matters requiring the position of a thoughtful coward, he evades, makes no reply. He wants to grab the left-wing electorate without losing the support of the centre. She stands in a clownish step, is implausible, incoherent and misleading. Yesterday’s infantile behavior in the Sejm is the essence of this. In the main public debate of this campaign, she was unable to determine whether she was for or against.
Yesterday, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland adopted a resolution in which it “strongly condemned the media, the shameful campaign, largely based on the materials of the communist apparatus of violence, whose target is the great Pope – St. John Paul II, the greatest Pole in history, it highlighted that “an attempt to discredit John Paul II with material that even the communists dared not use”.
“Saint John Paul II occupies a special place in the history of Poland and Europe. His decisive plea for the right of freedom of our homeland among the nations of Europe, his practical defense of the rights of our nation made the Holy Father the main father of Polish independence, reads the resolution of the Sejm establishing 2020 as the Year of the John Paul II, passed almost unanimously just four years ago, above political divisions. The thoughts contained in his teachings remain important guidelines for shaping social life. “History shows that a democracy without values easily turns into overt or disguised totalitarianism”; these words of the Polish pope, spoken in the building of the Sejm in 1999, are sadly becoming more and more relevant today
– was in the resolution of the Sejm
How was it voted?
The resolution passed with a majority of 271 deputies in support, with 43 votes against and 4 abstentions. • All PiS MPs voted for it (except 1 absent), the entire Polish-PSL coalition (except Jacek Protasiewicz, who did not vote), the whole agreement, the whole Kukiz’15, almost the whole Confederation (except 2 non-voters: Janusz Korwin-Mikke, Konrad Berkowicz) and A WAP – Joanna Fabisiak. • 4 deputies abstained: Dobromir Sośnierz, Ryszard Galla, Paweł Szramka, Michał Wypij. Almost all of the left voted AGAINST (except 5 non-voters) and Tomasz Zimoch, Joanna Senyszyn, Jakub Kulesza and Artur Dziambor. • The entire citizens’ coalition did not vote (except J. Fabisiak), ie as many as 142 deputies and almost all of Poland2050 with the exception of Tomasz Zimoch who voted against.

A cowardly escape
There is no doubt that we are experiencing the biggest dispute in the Polish public debate during the election campaign that has already begun. It is about our identity, one of the greatest authorities of modern times, the essence of our Polishness, a Pole appreciated all over the world, a great pope and a saint of the Catholic Church. An engineered attack cannot go unanswered. The story, based on SB reports, which re-ignited the darkest struggle of the communist secret police against the church, was introduced with great intensity by the liberal-left media in the main message. The goal is obvious and has been known for years. It is a consistent attempt to break national unity, to discredit the Church, to deprive it of its authority as a formative institution, part of a complex process of demoralizing society. I have discussed this in more detail in previous articles.

Anti-Catholic anger as an electoral strategy?
If anyone is attacking St. John Paul II, this is the opposition, especially for years with arguments of marginalization of the church, secularization of the state, “granting privileges to Catholics”, removing the legacy of faith and national identity (deeply rooted in Catholicism) from public space. This aggressive battle is escalating. The opposition of the Conservative majority is arousing growing anger. Hence the attack on the greatest saints, the abuse of the greatest authorities. But it’s a road to nowhere.
Hitting St John Paul II certainly sparked cackling and hateful outrage in left-wing circles, which once again intensified the attack. However, it resonated equally intensely – with strong outrage, unity and disagreement with lies – not only in Catholic, but also in centrist circles. Resisting injustice and manipulation is incredibly unifying. No doubt it will be the same in this case. Someone must have miscalculated! It may very quickly become apparent that an attempt at antagonization will result in the unification of the silent majority. The fueling of the campaign against the Church by Civic Coalition politicians will sooner or later turn against them. They know now, unable to take a clear stand in this unleashed anti-Catholic fury. They couldn’t decide how to vote. They did not dare to vote for the resolution in defense of St. John Paul II, but they also did not have the courage to speak out against it. Not making a decision has consequences. The voter expects a clear position on this and will certainly express it. What does it mean? Somehow it will be necessary to compensate for this indecisiveness of the left-wing electorate, to which the Civic Coalition is rapaciously projecting. So we can expect even more slaughters in the coming months. Since the pre-campaign already has such a rage of negative emotions that leads anti-clericals to physically attack monuments and churches, one can imagine what will have to be done to keep the dispute hot until the election. After all, we know the “program” of Donald Tusk’s campaign: voters lose in extremely negative emotions against the ruling party. But can hate politics produce good results? The uniting of the Poles against the furious campaign against the Holy Father already shows that this path will not bring the expected results either to the opposition or to other anti-clerical circles. It can already be seen that it will rather strengthen the sense of national community. Truth and goodness are stronger, and the Poles – a nation that resisted totalitarianism and the oppression of the invaders – are extremely aware of this fact.
