US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the draft Foreign Impact Transparency Act, which Georgia’s parliament passed in first reading on March 7, threatens the country’s Euro-Atlantic future.

His speech was broadcast on the department’s Youtube channel. The US representative believes that the draft law was “inspired by the Kremlin”.

Price pointed out that the passage of these bills in the Parliament “is incompatible with the open desire of the Georgian people for European integration and their democratic development”.

As a result, the US representative concluded that the desire to pass these laws endangered Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic future.

On March 7, the Georgian Parliament unanimously passed the bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” at first reading, which provides for the establishment of a register of externally funded non-governmental organizations and the media. Rallies for the bill have been taking place in the Georgian capital since last week, and previous deputies of the parliamentary majority clashed in a fight with the opposition.
