“You gotta get over it”
Protesting KO member Iwona Hartwich said she would only accept flowers from Bochenek if they turned into a higher pension for seriously ill protesting children.
Because today a person with a disability gets 1,217 PLN per hand. You have to pull yourself together and you have to pass a civil bill on social pensions today during this session of the Sejm.
emphasized the MP.
On Monday, a group of adults with disabilities and their carers resumed their protest in the Sejm, as reported by MP Hartwich. She also presented a civil bill on the social pension at the time, stating that the protesters demanded that the Sejm deal with it at this week’s meeting. This project provides for the payment of a social pension at the lowest national salary, currently PLN 3,490. Currently, adults with disabilities receive PLN 1,217 per month.
On Tuesday, Hartwich announced in the Sejm that a civil bill on social pensions had been introduced an hour before the debate began; asked the Marshal of the Sejm to continue with it during the current meeting.
The Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, pointed out that the bill had been introduced an hour before her speech and ensured that work on it would be carried out according to procedure, as with any other civic project. She added that there are currently several such projects in the Sejm.
People with disabilities, known from previous protests, join the protest in the Sejm, eg Jakub Hartwich and Adrian Glinka. The latter told reporters on Monday that he does not like to protest, but if he has to, then it is necessary. In total there are 11 people with disabilities and their carers.
They are in the same corridor as during the previous protests. They hung banners at the barrier of the parliament: “People with disabilities have the right to live with dignity! Social Security pension at the lowest national rate from now on!”; “PiS people!!! Why did you deprive people with disabilities of the solidarity fund? On Monday, Marshal’s Guard officers approached the demonstrators and wrote down their passes. According to information obtained by PAP, neither the head of the KO club, Borys Budka, nor PO leader Donald Tusk, of MP Hartwich’s plans.
The previous protest by carers of people with disabilities and their charges lasted from April 18 to May 27, 2018. They put forward two demands at the time: to equate the social pension with the minimum disability pension and to introduce a “living” supplement, also known as “rehabilitation” for disabled people who cannot live independently after the age of 18 at a cost of PLN 500 per month. The demonstrators argued that one of their demands had been carried out – an increase in the social pension. After the protest, their participants, including Iwona Hartwich, were barred from entering the Sejm. However, in 2019, Hartwich ran for the Sejm from the Civic Coalition’s lists and was elected.
