MP Kacper Płażyński accuses Marshal of the Pomeranian Province Mieczysław Struk (PO) of pro-Russian policies and demands the transfer of documentation about involvement in the “Russian Friendly” campaign. The marshal’s office disagrees with the allegations, stating that the action ended in 2014.
At a press conference in Gdańsk, MP Płażyński recalled that in early February he inquired about the involvement of the local government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in the “Russian Friendly” campaign.
In 2014, when Russia invaded Ukraine, the local government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Mr. Struk, the Pomeranian Regional Tourism Organization and the organization “Polska Friendly” decided to approach the citizens of Russia with an offer to come to the Pomeranian Voivodeship. And okay, I get it. We already knew what Russia was like then, but after the Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014, a lot has changed
he said.
Problematic action
Member of Parliament Kacper Płażyński stressed that the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Mieczysław Struk, refused to disclose the circumstances in which he became the honorary patron of the “Pomorskie Russian Friendly” campaign.
Instead of answers to my questions, I received a letter without any substantive value, as well as pre-trial letters from the Marshal and the Pomeranian Voivodeship Administration
he stressed.
He added that he wanted to see official documents on the involvement of Mieczysław Struk, the provincial government and the Pomeranian Regional Tourist Organization in the “Russian Friendly” campaign.
I have been informed that these documents have been destroyed. Therefore, I am submitting a letter requesting a report on the destruction of these documents
he announced.
The spokesperson for the Marshal’s Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship (UMWP), Michał Piotrowski, “deplores the fact that MP Kacper Płażyński does not know the assumptions of his party colleagues on foreign policy.”
Piotrowski indicated that he had letters from various ministries from 2016-2018 addressed to the marshal’s office.
All these letters suggest and invite you to participate in the Polish-Russian cooperation, implemented at the level of these ministries, or even expect the government of Pomerania to participate in such activities
he said.
Piotrowski adds that he also has e.g. documents from February 2022 regarding the publication by Radio Gdańsk of a communiqué from the conference organized by the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.
Here, quoting Radio Gdańsk, “despite the difficult times, friendly relations between the museums remain.” It is about the relationship between the museums in Gdańsk and the museums in Kaliningrad. This information is also shown by TVP in Gdańsk, the editors of Dziennik Bałtycki also write about it, and all these reports have in common that they describe this collaboration in superlatives as an undoubted success
– said Michal Piotrowski.
Since the Polish government has established various forms of cooperation with Russia over the years, if this cooperation is praised, if it is described as friendly relations, then why is there such interest in the “Russian Friendly” campaign, which actually ended in 2014 and has since closed completely
– summarized Michał Piotrowski.
Opinion of the government spokesman
“Every public institution in Poland should have a clear policy of cutting off relations with Russia, government spokesman Piotr Müller said when asked about Kacper Płażyński’s (PiS) parliamentary intervention in the matter, carried out under the protection of the Marshal of the province. Pomerania Mieczysław Struk (PO) from the action #PomorskieRussianFriendly.
When asked to comment on the parliamentary intervention of Gdańsk MP Kacper Płażyński (PiS) in the case conducted under the honorary protection of the Marshal of the Province of Pomerania Mieczysław Struk (PO) of the action #PomorskieRussianFriendly, stated the government spokesman that he “didn’t know this topic in such detail”.
All I can say is that every public institution in Poland, including local governments, (…) must have a clear, clear policy of breaking all relations with Russia and the Russian apparatus, because this apparatus also functions through different types of institutions , companies and associations
Muller said.
The spokesperson stressed that “this statement must be clear, strong and enforced, and any violation of this kind of political consensus (…) must be stigmatized.”
