wPolityce.pl. The head of the left club, Krzysztof Gawkowski, announced at a press conference a few days ago that “PiS treated cyberspace with neglect”. The gentleman on Twitter strongly objected to this.
However, it is worth returning to the subject because it is a serious matter. What is the output of the ruling camp on this issue?
MICHAŁ MOSKAL, Chief of Cabinet of the Vice-President of the Council of Security Ministers: The left has shown total ignorance. They just know nothing about security, which they have proven more than once. Seeing that it had become an important electoral area in the context of the war in Ukraine, they clumsily pretended to know what was going on. There have been many successes in this area since 2015, but I would focus on the main ones. First – building a national cybersecurity system based on the law enacted for that purpose. Secondly, to increase the capacity of the state to fight cybercrime, eg through the building of police capacities in this regard, and in the military field, the separation of the type of cyberspace defense forces and the start of the process of formulating them.
Why do you think the opposition is also trying to attack in terms of security? Are they looking for a gap to divert attention from the collapse of the state and the military under their rule, the rebuilding of the military in recent years?
When we judge the governments of our predecessors in terms of security, only one word comes to mind: disgrace. Examples of disarmament of the Polish army – such as the dismantling of the 3rd Mechanized Brigade in Lublin in 2011 – can be multiplied, and all this happened on the eve of the Russian invasion of Crimea.
When it comes to cybersecurity, one should pay special attention to the theme of Russian disinformation, which is so often supported by senior politicians of this party, such as Radosław Sikorski, which is embarrassing for the PO team. And this is an extremely topical problem, even in recent days on Russian-language portals there was false “information” that the bodies of 500 Ukrainian soldiers were allegedly found in the Bogdanka coal mine. Both the Eastern Wall and the energy sector are of particular importance to Russian services.
Can you expand this thread?
Unfortunately I can’t say anything more about it today. Nevertheless, it would be worth it for opposition politicians to find enough responsibility not to support these actions against Poland.
Tusk attributes the attack on internet freedom to the United Right camp. How will you relate to this topic?
I go back to 2011. At that time, as a high school student, I participated in organizing protests against the implementation of ACTA – an international agreement that aimed to create a legal framework for internet censorship. When it comes to censorship, it is also worth noting that the ABW entered the editorial office of “Wprost” – when the tire scandal broke. Tusk had censorship tendencies not only on the Internet, but also in the space of traditional media. These days he tries to blame PiS for his past sins, but we’re used to the thief shouting the loudest – “catch the thief”.
How do you see the campaign in the context of the above issues? Will it be rough?
We expect the opposition to go to extremes. So far, for short-term profit, they have been able to support Lukashenko’s operation, which destabilized our border, caused panic over the lack of coal or even lied that coal is available but is not burning. The method of covering one lie with another is still valid with them. Still, I am convinced that if we work hard, the truth will prevail.
