The German ambassador, who is in Warsaw for six months, has simple tasks, including: to convince Poland to move closer to Berlin and to convince Germany of Germany’s supposedly large role in supporting the defending Ukraine. However, Thomas Bagger does not have a good streak – a few useless debates, superficial speeches, completely missing the reality in Poland – again from the Spree they sent us a dilettante. So here the ambassador juggles platitudes about democracy, freedom, friendship and NATO until he comes across a specific text from the wPolityce.pl portal, which discusses Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak’s statements about the unsightly energy cooperation between Germany and the Kremlin. And here is this diplomat, who acted very undiplomatically, and I would even say brazenly, accused our country of supporting Moscow:
Does the minister know how many billions of zlotys Poland transferred to Moscow every year in exchange for Russian energy?
he said. Moreover, he did it on Twitter, childish, outside the rules of communication with the country you are visiting, amateurishness intertwined with arrogance. First of all, let us remind you that for years Poland gradually eliminated dependence on Russian energy (which previous governments left to us), while the vector of Berlin’s policy was the exact opposite – dependence on Gazprom was built up, a combination of legislative changes in the European Union.

So here is the sponsor of the Russian aggression accusing Ukraine’s main ally of arming the attacker. Today, instead of “you have guts”, we can say: “German ambassador” – and it will be the same thing.
But perhaps there is a deeper meaning in this nonchalance. If the German Member of Parliament allows himself such texts, if – who knows, maybe he really thinks – he talks with one hand about the need for Polish-German rapprochement and with the other he tries to scold us for German sins, then he is imagining perhaps that such a position in the international hierarchy – of a boy to beat – should occupy Poland?
In defense of Tusk
Let us recall here another activity of Ambassador Thomas Bagger, in which he also criticized a senior official of the Republic of Poland. In August 2022, a guest from Berlin mocked the statements of the President of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński, who ruled that Donald Tusk must have been given a high position in the EU for the introduction of Poland into the Eurozone. The official of the Republic of Poland formulated his position, and suddenly – in defense of Donald Tusk – the representative of the German state in Poland woke up and remarked:
Really, Mr. President? Do you sometimes confuse the present with the past? Shouldn’t the threat to Poland be seen in the East rather than the West?
Attempts by a German diplomat to bring order to high-ranking state officials in Poland may have the worst associations with us, although Bagger does it more funny than scary these days. However, everything indicates that this is the German standard in the treatment of Poland and the Polish state. Berlin still could not understand that such texts will not win the sympathy of the Poles. Didn’t his clients from Wiejska tell him that the independence camp in our country is irritated by German paternalism towards the countries of our region? Or perhaps he doesn’t realize that such arrogance confirms Law and Justice’s concerns that German policy intentions are not very transparent.
Let Thomas Bagger formulate such texts when Donald Tusk is in power. Although with the Berlin policy that may never happen.
