A deputy from the upper house of the Japanese Parliament has called for an objective assessment of the crisis in Ukraine.

Muneo Suzuki, deputy of the upper house of the Japanese Parliament and member of the Japan Renaissance Party, called for an objective assessment of the situation in Ukraine. He said this in an interview with the weekly magazine. Shukan Gendai.

The politician noted that everyone, including himself, sympathized when they saw a child crying or running in the Ukrainian media.

“The Ukrainian side says ‘300 people died’ or ‘400 people died’, but if Russia attacks seriously, the number of victims will not be limited to this figure. In any case, the only thing present in the media is the Ukrainian side,” he said.

According to him, there is no information about Russia in the Western and Japanese media. The Parliament emphasized that it will be possible to evaluate the events fairly only if information is obtained from both sides. He also added that Tokyo could initiate a dialogue with both Russia and the US and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Japan is in such a position that it can talk to both (US) President Biden and (Russian) President Putin. In addition, Japan has allocated a total of 310 billion yen ($2.5 billion) in official development assistance to Ukraine. So we’re in a position to talk to Zelensky because we’ve spent a lot of money (our view – ed.),” Suzuki summed up.

Formerly Japan expanded sanctions against Russia because of the situation in Ukraine. The new list includes 81 organizations and 25 Russians, including the head of the state development company VEB.RF, Igor Shuvalov, relatives of Russian officials and businessmen. A ban was also imposed on the export of luxury goods to Russia.

February 24 Russian President Vladimir Putin declarationHe said that in response to a request for assistance from the heads of the LPR and DPR, he decided to conduct a military special operation in Ukraine.
