Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on national television: RTSHe cannot swear never to support Western sanctions.
According to the head of state, he will “never forget” how in 2015 the United Nations Security Council blocked a draft United Kingdom resolution recognizing the 1995 shootings in Srebrenica as genocide. At the same time, he noted that he can recall negative examples of Russia’s behavior, for example, Russia supports sanctions against Serbia.
“I will never forget 2015 when I personally called the President of Russia (Russian Federation) Vladimir Putin and asked him to help us at the UN and he did that. Therefore, we no longer have the stigma of people who committed genocide, otherwise we would have been designated as such a people in the UN,” he said.
He was also asked to clarify whether this means that Belgrade’s support for anti-Russian sanctions is irrelevant. In response, the Serbian leader said the question was “relevant”. He also stated that he “could not take an oath on this matter”.
But you should know that even if I don’t swear, my stance on a certain issue is much stronger and firmer than the oath of anyone who changes their oath twice in the morning and evening.
Earlier, Vučić said that the country can to impose sanctions Against Russia because of the pressure of the West on the country.
