PP points to absolute majority challenge in presentation of Barcala’s candidacy

Accompanied by the former President of the Government Mariano Rajoy and by Carlos Mazón, president of the PPCV, current councilor of Alicante and the popular candidate for mayor of the province’s capital in the municipal elections on 28 May., Luis Barcala submitted his candidacy on Tuesday night. Barcala was announced by the PP’s national leadership as its candidate for Mayor of Alicante at a ceremony in Madrid on January 22, and the mayor stressed that “Alicante must continue to be led by the PP to ensure continuity for the party. renewal of civil service contracts and lower taxation in tax policies.

Rajoy also has a special relationship with the state of Alicante, as he works as a land registry officer in Santa Pola. His stay was short as he quickly requested a transfer to Madrid, but his particular fondness for the town of Santapolera is well known.

Support for Barcala will not be a novelty as the Alicante square is one of the fixed ones in Rajoy’s different campaigns and other election appointments as a presidential candidate.
