On Monday, February 27, Syrian President Bashar Assad thanked the Egyptian leadership and people for the immediate assistance provided to the victims of the February 6 earthquake. It has been reported TASS.
“Our relations with Egypt are of a historic nature and Syria is interested in developing relations that will strengthen its position in the pan-Arab arena,” Assad said.
He stressed that he highly appreciated the attitude of the Egyptian authorities towards Syrians who were resettled in the country after the outbreak of the armed conflict. The Syrian President added that Syrians are not treated as refugees in Egypt, but are considered “brothers”.
Assad’s speech declarationthat the war in the country gave us experience that allowed us to act quickly in the first hours of the earthquake.
Hans Kluge, Head of the European Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), said that the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in February were the strongest natural disasters of the last century in the European Region.
As Kluge says, WHO is still investigating the magnitude of the earthquakes’ intensity and “the true cost is still unknown.”
