If Roman Giertych is introduced to the Senate by anyone, and it certainly won’t be the left, but I have no right to block it – said New Left co-chair Włodzimierz Czarzasty, who was asked on Monday about the candidates at the so-called of the Senate Pact.
Consolidation of the left in the battle for the Senate
Signing by the opposition parties Civic Platform, Left, PSL and Poland 2050 of the so-called The Senate Pact is scheduled for Tuesday. The day before, an agreement was signed by the left: the New Left, the Samen party, the Public Prosecution Service and the Union.
Agreements with trade unions, various associations, feminist organizations, climate organizations and others are expected in the near future.
– announced Czarzasty, who was a guest at RMF FM.
What about the “traitors” of the New Left?
Czarzasty was asked about the list of parliamentarians who have left the New Left during the current legislature, eg the candidacy of the current Deputy Speaker of the Senate Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka. She was a candidate for the Left in 2019 and left the club, among other things, in an atmosphere of conflict with Czarzasty, in December 2021.
I award this to Mrs. Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka to run for Senate
– he said. When asked who would report it, he replied: “The formation he feels connected to at the moment. It is certainly not left wing.”
I think Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka is talking to someone about this. Not with us, because she left us. I respect her choices.
said Czarzasty.
vulture? If someone reports it
The co-chair of the New Left was asked if he imagined attorney Roman Giertych walking away from the Senate Pact.
The most important thing is to control your ego and your impulses and take two or three steps back. If Mr. Roman Giertych is reported by someone, and it is certainly not left, I have no right to block it
said Czarzasty.
How many seats in the pact for the left?
When asked how many of the 100 constituencies in which the representatives of the left will run for the senate, the deputy marshal replied that the senate pact formations have selected more than 60 constituencies in which they should win a seat, and their allocation will depend on the ratings of individual parties. According to him, the left should be given between 5 and 10 constituencies to fill.
Asked why only so much, he said “we care so much about this Penativity Pact that if we have to move on and have a little less we will do it so that this Senate Pact will be”.
We will fight for ours, but we care more about the Senate being in Democratic hands
– he said.
Czarzasty also said the opposition should sign an agreement to rule together after the elections.
Why not a joint list to the Sejm?
When asked if the opposition is doing so well with the Senate, why there is no agreement on a joint list to the Sejm, he replied: “Because things are going badly.”
Let everyone take their own responsibility here. Mr. Szymon Hołownia and Mr. (Władysław) Kosiniak-Kamysz have made it clear that they do not want one list
said the politician from the left.
Mr Donald Tusk said there would be no single list and he went alone
– added.
Today we sign an agreement from the left, because we think it is fair for the left. To be clear: this agreement does not end the discussion about the lists
– he emphasized when he spoke about the agreement between Nieuw Links van Samen, the Public Prosecution Service and the Union.
First Penat Pact was closed by the main opposition groups – Civic Coalition, PSL and the left before the parliamentary elections in 2019. Although it was not strictly enforced everywhere (e.g. in Łódź, Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, a former PO politician, ran as an independent candidate and defeated the candidate of left, Małgorzata Niewiadomska-Cudak, there were also constituencies where, for example, candidates from PSL and the left competed), thanks to him, the opposition together at least won the elections to the Senate, although Law and Justice won the elections to the Sejm.
